When you are buying gear for your DJ setup and it happens to come with headphones, carefully listen to them and turn up the volume to test them out. Also while it is plugged in check to see if when you wiggle or move the headphone cable around it does not break up or you hear any static in the signal. Always check to see if the cable from the headphones is securely connected to the mixer. Make sure that if you are to do a lot of moving around that you do not lose any sound from your headphones. Turn up the volume on your headphones for a couple of seconds. Although you do not want to turn them up too loud so that you do not damage your hearing either.
The main reason for this is to make sure that even at high volumes your headphones do not give any types of distortion. Normally this will occur when your headphones get played way too loud. They will need to be played very loud before starting to sound fairly fuzzy.
You also need to know that you will be doing a lot of moving around behind your DJ equipment so you should remember to get a pair of head phones that have a fairly long cable. The reason for this is because if it is too short then you will have trouble moving around or you will have a better chance of the headphones getting unplugged by any slight tug made to the cable.
